Wi-Fi Walkie-Talkie Rental
Request a quoteWi-Fi walkie-talkies communicate via an existing IP network (Wi-Fi or LAN), without relying on mobile networks or traditional radio frequencies.
The Wi-Fi walkie-talkie is a targeted solution, designed for clearly defined contexts: enclosed buildings, underground areas, sites cut off from the mobile network.
At Sabbah Communication, we offer Wi-Fi walkie-talkie rental when they genuinely meet the need, and only in contexts where this technology is relevant.

When the Wi-Fi walkie-talkie makes sense
– Communication only within a site
– Heavily partitioned building or basement
– Existing and controlled Wi-Fi / LAN network
– No need for outdoor range
– Not suited to events
– Not suited to open sites
– Not suited to mobile teams
How a Wi-Fi walkie-talkie works
The principle is simple:
- The terminal connects to the site’s Wi-Fi or wired network
- Voice travels via the internal IP infrastructure
- Communications are organised by groups, just like a conventional walkie-talkie
- Range depends exclusively on Wi-Fi coverage
The Wi-Fi walkie-talkie is therefore only as reliable as the network it runs on.
Interconnection with other technologies:
In some cases, these Wi-Fi networks can be interconnected with other radio technologies (VHF/UHF, LTE) via IP gateways, to unify communications.
These architectures are detailed in our dedicated interconnection section
Unlike VHF/UHF or LTE radios, a Wi-Fi walkie-talkie does not communicate directly with other terminals via long-range radio waves.
When to use
Wi-Fi walkie-talkies
Underground or isolated environments
Technical basements, enclosed car parks, galleries, technical rooms where:
• The mobile network is absent
• VHF/UHF radio waves penetrate poorly
• An internal Wi-Fi network is already in place
Practical examples:
Multi-level underground car parks, data centres, technical tunnels, server rooms, hospital basements…

Thick-walled or heavily partitioned buildings
Sites where radio propagation is severely degraded:
• Listed historic buildings (unable to install antennas)
• Hospitals (interference with medical equipment)
• Research centres with shielded rooms
• Reinforced concrete structures (bunkers, military installations)
Practical examples:
Castles, listed museums, healthcare facilities, research laboratories.
Indoor-only sites with strictly internal communication
Communication between teams with no need to go beyond the site:
• Technical maintenance teams
• Closed-site operations
• Restricted internal coordination
Practical examples:
Postal sorting centre, factory in a confined environment, partitioned industrial installation.

What the Wi-Fi walkie-talkie
does not replace
It is important to be clear: the Wi-Fi walkie-talkie does not replace other radio technologies.
Not suited to events
An event involves open areas, mobile teams, changing layouts: Wi-Fi is not reliable in these conditions.
Not suited to extended sites
As soon as communication needs to go beyond a building or a controlled Wi-Fi perimeter, the solution reaches its limits.
Not an alternative to LTE or VHF/UHF radios
Wi-Fi depends on local infrastructure. Professional radios remain more robust for field use.
The Wi-Fi walkie-talkie is a specialised solution, not a universal one.
Our Wi-Fi walkie-talkie fleet
We offer professional Icom Wi-Fi terminals, designed for constrained environments requiring communication over IP infrastructure.
Deployment
Configuration on your existing Wi-Fi network, creation of communication groups, terminal assignment.
No dedicated server required in most cases (peer-to-peer mode possible depending on configuration).
Our positioning:
We deploy these terminals as part of controlled services, on existing or audited infrastructure. We do not sell Wi-Fi equipment alone without prior context validation.
Icom Wi-Fi/IP portable terminals
IP67-rated rugged radios, 10-12h battery life, compatible with 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet (via docking station).
Digital audio quality, programmable buttons, LCD screen.
Available features:
• Push-to-Talk group communication
• Short text messaging
• Individual or group calls
• SIP infrastructure compatibility if needed
Network prerequisites:
Stable Wi-Fi network with voice QoS recommended.
We can audit your Wi-Fi infrastructure before deployment to verify compatibility.
Advantages and limitations of the Wi-Fi solution
Advantages
- Works without a mobile network
- No ANFR frequency licence required
- Good audio quality on a stable network
- Can integrate with an existing IP network
Limitations
- Total dependence on Wi-Fi quality
- No range beyond network coverage
- Sensitive to network congestion
- More technical setup than a conventional walkie-talkie
