PMR 446 is a short-range coordination tool, not a critical operations tool
Licence-Free PMR 446 Walkie-Talkie Rental — simple communication for nearby teams
Request a quoteOrganising a small event, coordinating a team on a single site, need radios for 2–3 days?
Professional VHF/UHF radios with ANFR licensing would be oversized — PMR 446 walkie-talkie rental is more appropriate.
PMR 446 radios meet precisely this need: simple, licence-free, immediately operational.

They are not designed for critical, extended or heavily partitioned setups.
Sabbah Communication offers rugged PMR 446 radios, configured and ready to use for small organisations, public services and local events.
PMR 446 radios are suited to simple, short-range needs
When PMR 446 is the right solution
Operating area < 500m
Short-term communication (a few hours to days)
Tight budget, immediate need
No ANFR licence required
Simple, non-critical coordination
Area > 500m or multi-level partitioned buildings
Communication critical for operations
Congested radio environment
In these cases, a professional VHF/UHF solution is more appropriate
The PMR 446 regulatory framework
PMR 446 (Private Mobile Radio 446 MHz) is a European radio communication standard on 16 dedicated channels, usable without a licence
In practice:
- Free to use: no ANFR authorisation required
- Interoperability: all PMR 446 radios can communicate with each other
- Mobility: usable anywhere in Europe
Technical limitation:
Transmission power is limited to 0.5 W, which impacts range (see next section)
Actual range and PMR 446 limitations
Interference management:
The 16 PMR 446 channels are public. We configure CTCSS/DCS codes to filter out parasitic communications and ensure you only hear your own teams
Typical ranges:
- Open outdoor: up to 500m
- Urban/industrial environment: 100–300m
- Partitioned indoor: 50–100m
Beyond 500m or in heavily partitioned environments, PMR 446 reaches its limits
